A Championship on the Line. They say it's hard to beat a good football team twice. The Hobart Brickies are hoping to prove that saying true Friday night when they welcome the Morton Governors to Don Howell Field at The Brickyard for the 2026 IHSAA Class 4A Sectional 17 Championship. The last time these two teams met, the Governors delivered a convincing 41-0 victory over the Brickies. It was a difficult night for Hobart, one that left little doubt about which team was better that evening. But that was then. This is November. And this time, there's a sectional championship on the line. For Morton, Friday night represents an opportunity to finish what it started earlier this season and prove that the first meeting was no fluke. The Governors will arrive at The Brickyard with confidence, knowing they've already demonstrated their ability to control this matchup. For Hobart, the opportunity is something entirely different: redemption. A 41-point defeat is not something a football program easily forgets. But the beauty of high school football, particularly tournament football, is that the scoreboard resets to 0-0 every Friday night. What happened in the regular season doesn't determine what happens in November. The Brickies have earned the opportunity to write a different ending. The Stakes Couldn't Be Higher There is something special about postseason football at The Brickyard. The tradition, the atmosphere, the community, and the pride that comes with wearing the purple and gold all take on added meaning when a championship is at stake. Friday night won't be about what happened weeks ago. It will be about which team executes, which team handles adversity, and which team is willing to make the plays necessary to keep its season alive. For Hobart, the challenge is clear. The Brickies must find a way to turn the lessons of that first meeting into a better performance when it matters most. For Morton, the challenge is equally significant. Beating a team 41-0 once is impressive. Doing it again, on the road, with a championship at stake, is an entirely different proposition. Both teams have earned their place in this championship game. Only one will leave with the trophy. One Game. One Opportunity. One Champion. When the lights come on at Don Howell Field Friday night, the previous score won't matter. Neither will the predictions, the rankings, or what anyone believes should happen. There will be 48 minutes of football to decide the Sectional 17 Championship. The Governors are looking to repeat history. The Brickies are looking to rewrite it. And there's no better place to do that than at The Brickyard. All My Life I Want to Be a Brickie! Additional Storylines Heading Into Friday Night The rematch has plenty of intrigue. Hobart enters at 8-3, having won three straight games since the Morton loss while averaging more than 42 points per contest. Morton stands at 7-4 after postseason victories over Hanover Central and Lowell. The Brickies are also the defending Sectional 17 champions, making Friday night an opportunity to defend their title on their home field. Senior standouts Aiden Kasch and Bryce Tolliver will be important to Hobart's championship hopes, while the Brickies' defense faces the challenge of containing Morton's dynamic sophomore quarterback Amari Price.
